Top Mafia Boss Arrested

Salvatore Lo Piccolo, 65, considered the supreme leader of the Mafia, the Cosa Nostra (Our Thing) was arrested. He had been a fugitive since 1983.

Open ambition is a dangerous thing for a mafioso. Salvatore Lo Piccolo managed to hide his highest aspirations as he rose from loyal foot soldier to the upper echelons of the Mafia hierarchy. Lo Piccolo, the Palermo native, always seemed to be on the winning side of internal feuds, a talent that helped him become supreme boss in Palermo. As he wanted to control the entire island of Sicily, he expanded cooperation with U.S. gangsters, even the title of capo dei capi — the boss of bosses.
